(8) 17 March. Day 2 in the Big Brother Car

After a good night's rest and breakfast we decided that we would forgo an overnight stay in the historic city of Salamanca en route to Tariffa and press on - if possible all the way - to try and meet the other teams in accordance with our original plan. It would be another long day.

We set off at 10am and headed south again and across the border. Other than the language on the road signs changing things were very much the same: the roads were still good and still empty, the weather was still shite and Sue was still driving too quickly while I was apparently still driving too slowly... (’Mark, you've got a heavy great boot on your foot: use it'.  'Yes Sue...I might just do that!').  Oh yes, confined in the pressure cooker that is the car for hours on end we are quickly learning each other's annoying habits. But lest you worry it is all good healthy banter (well, I know it is on my part is at least).

We arrived at the hotel at 10.30pm in time to grab a meal and have a quick chat with some of the other teams; it's an eclectic mix. Everyone seems a little disorganised at the moment but after today's trip we do not really care and will get down to making decisions after a good night's sleep.

A point to ponder. After 11 hours and 700 miles of driving on French motorways we saw only one set of roadworks.  And after 12 hours and 850 miles of driving in Spain we saw....only one set of roadworks.
